PC CONTROL CONVERTERS AND CABLES
#17690 - USB to Serial Converter adapts the SSP serial output to a USB 2.0 interface. Single port converter.
#17691 - 4-Port USB to Serial Converter adapts the SSP serial output to a USB 2.0 interface. Four seperate COM ports allow all of the Optec instruments to interface to a single USB port.
To attach the IFW to the COM (RS-232 serial) port of a computer requires a special cable. These cables are flat 6-wire stranded with RJ-12 modular connectors on both ends. They are typically refered to as reverse cables since each pin number on one connector is connected to the same number on the other end. To adapt the RJ-12 connect to fit the standard COM port on a computer (9-pin sub-D male), it is required that the PC Serial Port converter be purchased in addition to the cable. The reverse cable are available with standard lengths or a custom lengths up to 100 feet.

Many computers do not have the standard RS-232 COM ports or only a few are avialable. The USB-to-Serial converter allows the addition of many more COM ports with use of the present USB serial standard. Either a single COM port can be provided with #17690 or up to 4 COM ports can be made available with the #17691.

IMPORTANT: Not all USB-to-Serial converters are compatible with Optec software. We have found that those with the FTDI chip set are compatible and the models Optec sells use this chip set. Those with the Prolific chip set are not compatible. This limitation only effects Optec control software and not the software from other parties such as CCDSoft or MaximDL.
