TCF-S Focuser Software Installer:

NOTE:  The OptecTCF-S_Installer package below includes the ASCOM local server driver and the TCF-S Commander interface client program. When upgrading from v5.4.2 or earlier, it is a good idea to manually uninstall the older driver prior to installing v6.0.0 or higher.

IMPORTANT: For older TCF-S controller boards, the latest firmware, V2.40, is REQUIRED for full functionality. New firmware PIC chips may be ordered here.  The ASCOM platform is REQUIRED for this driver.

You MUST install these drivers in administrator mode.  Download and unzip the file to a temporary location, open the folder and right-click the Setup.exe program.  Select "Run as Administrator" to avoid a Windows Error:1001 message.  This driver is digitally signed by Optec, Inc.

Windows XP Installer Package

For Windows XP users, we offer a special installer package here.

Note the following special changes with version 6.0.0:

  • Only one installer is provided.  TCF-S Commander now uses an "any CPU" installer package eliminating the need to choose between x86 and x64 devices.

  • Local server driver. The TCF-S driver is now an ASCOM local server driver. This allows any number of ASCOM clients to connect to the TCF-S at the same time.

  • TCF-S Commander is now an ASCOM client. This allows TCF-S Commander to be connected at the same time as the other ASCOM clients.

  • An improved Temperature Wizard. The wizard more accurately calculates temperature coefficients.

  • TCF-S Commander can now move the focuser during Temperature Compensation. This only applies to the TCF-S Commander program. Other ASCOM clients may not have this capability.

  • Added Temperature Compensation at Start. This new feature allows focusers that have been calibrated with the updated Temperature Wizard to automatically focus at the start of the night. With TempCompOnStart active, the TCF-S will immediately compensate for any changes in temperature when first turned on.  It will remain in TempComp mode while an ASCOM client is connected.

Known Technical Issues:
USB-to-Serial Converter Issues.
NOTE: If a USB-to-serial converter is needed to interface to an Optec instrument, it is necessary to confirm that the converter is compatible with the Optec control software. Many low cost converters using the Prolific chip set will not work with the Optec control software. We suggest that the converter use the FTDI chip set for best compatibility. The #17690 single port and the #17691 4-port USB-to-serial converter sold by Optec each use the FTDI chip set.
